Today in history - 26th March 1934 Driving tests introduced in Britain (voluntary until June 1935).

In March 1934 a voluntary driving test was introduced by the Road Traffic Act. The first person in Britain to pass was Mr R.E.L.BEERE.

The son of Mr R.E.L.BEERE.still has the certificate 00001 signed on behalf of the (then) Minister of Transport.

On the 1st June 1935, England introduced a Compulsory Driving Test for all drivers in England who started driving on or after 1st April 1934.
