Summer has arrived.
For children and young people, there is the opportunity to have outside fun; yet for parents and carers there is the requirement to be extra alert to keep our vulnerable safe from injury during play.
Now is a good time to look at the safety of play equipment and to reflect on some key safety measures especially relevant to the garden and outside activities.
- Is your child is using a safety helmet when cycling.
- Does the trampoline have a safety-net enclosure fitted.
- Check that the garden swing is properly secured.
- Does the location of the paddling pool enable supervision. Always try to empty the pool after use.
- Have you secured garden tools, electrical garden equipment and chemicals (such as weedkiller).
- Is the garden pond secured and inaccessible to children.
- Can the barbeque be isolated when not in use. Remember, they remain hot long after cooking is complete.
- Is the garden secure; keep gates closed and check that fences or hedges surrounding the garden have no gaps
- Last but not least – Don’t forget the Sun Cream
Stay safe and enjoy the summer holidays.
