Compliance is crucial in support of our core values

12 Feb 2019

Compliance is a key element in support of our trilogy of core values. It underpins our Safeguarding and is the cornerstone of our Integrity. The questions we need to answer are:

  • Why do we comply?
  • How do we comply?
  • How do we demonstrate that we comply?

The Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSiE) Guidance revised in September 2018 gives us clear guidance on the standards associated with recruiting, selecting and assigning Teachers and Teaching Assistants into Schools. It equally gives clear guidance to Schools and Academies on the standards they should expect from the Supply Teacher Agencies with whom they work and the Supply Team Members who are deployed. It reminds each and every one of us that Safeguarding Pupils is everyone’s responsibility. A responsibility that we take most seriously.

To comply and support our Schools and Academies we ensure that prior to joining the team, every potential member has completed the following checks:

a.           Identity Check including a face to face interview

b.           Academic Qualification Check

c.           Professional and Character Reference Check

d.           Employment History Check

e.           National College for Teaching and Leadership (NCTL) Check previously The Teacher Agency Check

f.            Criminal Record Check

g.           DBS Status Check

h.           List 99 Barred Check

i.            Right To Work Check

j.            Fitness to Work Check

k.           Overseas Teachers Check (if appropriate)

l.            A self-declaration indicating an awareness of the DfE guidance (Part One of the Keeping Children Safe in Education) and as a consequence are not barred.

Detailed written confirmation, outlining safeguarding checks, is communicated rigorously to each school when assigning an ESL team member.

Since 2003 we are proud that external audits by both the Department for Education (DfE) and the Recruitment and Employment Confederation (REC) are without break. ESL’s most recent inspection by the DWP and the DBS secured an outcome of entire Compliance in our procedures and practice. We meet the most rigorous standards in teacher recruitment having been awarded the Gold Standard in Recruitment by the REC.  This demonstrates our commitment to best practice and compliance with all legislation.

Should you seek further clarification about compliance please do not hesitate to make contact.
