ESL is one of only 191 companies throughout the city who have been accredited as meeting the Charter standards, as defined by Birmingham City Council, for Social Responsibility. The charter aims to boost the local economy through support to the local supply chain, creation of job opportunities and ensuring employees are paid a fair wage.
What is the Charter?
The Birmingham Business Charter for Social Responsibility is a set of guiding principles to which Birmingham City Council (BCC), ESL and other invited suppliers have adopted.
The principles of the charter are:
Local Employment
Buy Birmingham First
Partners in Communities
Good Employer
Green and Sustainable
Ethical Procurement
Jonathan Dakin, Managing Director of ESL said, “Prior to recognition, we gave careful consideration as to how we could support and improve the economic, social and environmental well-being of Birmingham and its citizens. As a small family owned and managed local business, with over 20 years experience of supporting and developing local people the Birmingham Business Charter for Social Responsibility and ESL compliment one another.”
If you are a contracted supplier, another public sector body (including schools) or a third sector organisation and aspire to sign up to the Charter, you will be expected to agree to an amendment to your existing contracts that will commit you to delivering the principles outlined above.
