About Acorns

Acorns Children’s Hospice offers a round the clock network of care and support to children and young people with life limiting or life threatening conditions.

Acorns has three hospices in Selly Oak, Walsall and Worcester, offering day care, short breaks, emergency medical care and end of life care. The hospices are designed to be a home-from-home environment to help children enjoy their stay and make the most of every day. Special adolescent wings ensure privacy for older children and a family flat on site enables families to stay close to their loved ones.

A highly experienced and dedicated community team also give support to the family at home, 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

It costs over £8 million a year to maintain the vital services Acorns provides. Every day £750 is needed for each individual child’s care. The charity relies on voluntary donations, fundraising and community support to fund over 70% of its income. For every pound received, 88p is spent directly on providing care services. The other 12p goes towards raising the next pound.

Acorns currently cares for over 640 children and 910 families, including the bereaved. There is no charge to families to use Acorns services.
